Reading - Evaluate Texts

Reading - Evaluate Texts

In reading we have been learning to….make decisions about the usefulness of the text for purpose, by using a variety of criteria to evaluate.

Here is a link to our online modelling book

We have been evaluating texts against the following four criteria:
  1. Readability
  2. Accuracy
  3. Relevance
  4. Status

These documents show evidence of my learning during this unit:

My Next Step: Is to continue to apply this new knowledge and evaluate texts as I read them, checking for readability, accuracy, relevance and quality of language/ information

Today I had PALS, Riley and I were doing jump jam. Firstly we got the sound box and set up for it. Then we opened the doors to the hall so people could come in. When everything was set up we started playing the videos and showed the people how to do the movements. After 5 videos it was time for us to finish up so we told everyone that jump jam was finished and we packed up. After that I thought I showed the care value of Community because I gave everyone at my school a activity that they could do on a wet day, I also showed the leadership trait of  Trustworthy because I showed up to my duty and was on time.

Today I had choir, for our warm up we sang believer and thunder by imagine dragons. For the choir festival practice we sang sing your song. After we had finished singing sing your song we played around with wonderful world. Then when the practice had finished I thought that I showed the care value of  Active thinking because when I didn't know the words to a song I would try different strategy's until I knew the words, I also showed the leadership trait of Goal focused because I set a goal that I would learn the words and I did.

Term 2 book review

Term 2 book review

The book I am reviewing is See ya Simon, the two main characters are Simon and Nathan.

This book is about a boy named Simon and he has muscular dystrophy. During the book Simon gets weaker and weaker, something about this book that moved me was when Simon had a accident and had to go to hospital. Near the end of the book Nathan finds out something that breaks his heart, but I don't want to spoil it for you so that's all I have to say. If you want to find out more go read this heart moving book.

On Friday Riley and I had Pals, we were doing stilts and hoops. When we had decided on what we were doing we went to the P.E shed and got the gear. Then we carried it down to the area we were playing in. After the bell that rung children were playing with our gear. Then when our time was up we took the gear back to the P.E shed. I thought I showed the care value of Active Thinking because I didn't know what to play and I problem solved around it, I also showed the leadership trait of Goal focused because I set a goal that I would do Pals the hole term and I achieved it.

Today at 8:45 I went to choir, the first thing I did when I got there was do the role. Then we did a warm up this was 'what a wonderful world'. Mr Rule said that we were going to be learning a new song today, this song was 'I can see clearly now' I like this song a lot. Mr Rule then made us do a little round thing this is when you chose a nursery rime today it was 'twinkle twinkle little star'. After choir had finished I thought I showed respect because I turned up on time and did the role, I also think I showed the leadership trait of  trustworthy because I said at the start of the year I would be in choir and I lived up to that.

Algebra - Graphs, tables and rules.

In Maths we have been using to: use graphs, tables and rules to describe linear relationships found in number and spatial patterns.

Here is a link to our online modelling book. This shows all of the learning we have been doing.

EVIDENCE of my learning.
Here are some photos of my Extended abstract problem solving task.

My next step is to continue to apply what I have learned in a range of problem solving activities.
Here are some screenshots to show the IXL activities I have completed.

Term 2 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel See ya Simon

I found this novel personal and interesting because I found out what people with disabilities feel like and how they see the world.
During the novel I had to complete a thinking map which shows that I can classify how the author has shown the theme of the book.
The National Standard this covers is

  • Year 9/10 Standard
    • I can locate, evaluate, analyse and summarise information and ideas within texts and across a range of texts.
    • I have a large vocabulary that is connected to my own knowledge about the world and includes: - academic e.g observe vs watch - subject-specific (specific words about a subject (e.g feline) - technical terms (specialised vocabulary of a particular field.)
Overall I would give this novel a rating of 9/10 and I would / would not  recommend it to others to read because It is an inspiring book that tells the tale about what it’s like in other people’s shoes It also gives you the message about friendship and acceptance.

On Friday I had Pals, Riley and I were doing stilts. The first thing we did was get the gear the we went down to the area we were playing in. During the game I stopped and counted how many people their were, there were 15 people. When it was 10 past 1 Riley and I decided it was time to finish up so we told everyone that we were finished. After Riley and I had returned the gear back to it's place I thought about how we showed Excellence by Putting gear back in the right place, I also thought that I showed the leadership trait of Integrity because I turned up on time and did my duty.

Current Events Term 2, 2017

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:

  • Year7/8: I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

Music Term 2

For Music this term, three things I learnt were:
1. That a rap contains three things these are hip hop, disc jocking ( DJing) and Beat
2. New Zealand artists.
3. World artists.

Something I found challenging was When we had to recognize New Zealand artists.
